The nickname is dramatic — “Vampire Facial” — but the treatment underneath is one of the most legitimately hard-working things on our menu: microneedling with PRP. Here’s what’s actually happening, minus the Halloween branding.
The two halves of the treatment
Microneedling uses a device with fine needles to create thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin. Each one is a tiny renovation notice: the skin responds by producing fresh collagen and elastin as it repairs. On its own, microneedling is already a proven approach for texture, fine lines, enlarged pores, and acne scarring.
PRP — platelet-rich plasma — is the upgrade. We draw a small vial of your blood, spin it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and apply that golden plasma layer into the fresh micro-channels. Platelets carry growth factors — the body’s own repair signals. You’re essentially fertilizing the renovation your skin was already starting.
No donor products, no synthetic filler — the active ingredient came out of your arm fifteen minutes earlier.
What it does well
Where I see it earn its keep, session over session:
- Texture and glow. The classic post-series comment is “your skin looks lit from within.” Smoother surface, tighter-looking pores.
- Acne scarring. Rolling and shallow scars respond especially well to a committed series.
- Fine lines. Collagen renewal softens early lines — it’s a favorite “aging gracefully” treatment for patients who aren’t ready for injectables.
- Overall firmness over a series, as new collagen matures.
What recovery honestly looks like
You’ll leave pink — think a day at the lake without sunscreen. By the next morning most patients look lightly flushed; by day two or three, makeup goes on normally. Skin may feel tight and look faintly rough as the surface renews. I send everyone home with simple aftercare: gentle products, no actives for a few days, and religious sunscreen.
Who it’s for (and how many sessions)
Results build across a series — a common plan is three sessions spaced about a month apart, then maintenance a couple of times a year. One session gives you a glow; the series is what changes texture and scarring.
It’s not the right week for it if you have active breakouts in the treatment area, certain skin conditions, or a big event in the next 48 hours — all things we screen for in your consult.
Curious whether your skin goals fit this treatment or one of our other skin treatments? Come in — I’ll look at your skin, not a script, and tell you what I’d actually do.
